Fall HVAC Maintenance Check List

As the Summer season winds down here in Ocean City, New Jersey it’s time to start thinking about Fall, and when it comes to your home that means prepping for Winter. Before the cold weather seats in, all of us at Lenegan Plumbing & Heating LLC want to make sure your HVAC System is running properly. So here are a few tips on how to stay warm and save money this year:

1. Change the air filter:
Changing your air filter frequently will ensure your equipment is not overworking and that you’re getting the best air quality in your home. Even though you may still be running the AC here and there while summer slowly comes to an end, it’s a good idea to pop in a new, fresh filter.

2. Schedule an HVAC tune-up:
A preventative maintenance check by one of our professionals will ensure that your system will run properly throughout the long winter months. Our team will make sure everything is running properly and prevent any emergency repairs from happening down the line. A technician will calibrate the thermostat, inspect the system and clean it, test the airflow, measure the motor voltages and tighten any electrical connections, among many other tasks. Plus, yearly tune-up will also keep your warranty valid if you have a newer system. To view our service contract, click here.

3. Clear the area around your outside equipment:
During the summer, weeds or other foliage may have grown around the unit, clearing this away from the area along with any grass clipping or leaves is a good idea.

4. Adjust your thermostat:
With the kids back in school and the change in temperatures, you don’t have to keep the same settings you had in July. Set the temperature of your home to a comfortable setting that make sense with the outside temps at different times of the day. You might want to consider looking into a smart thermostat as well.

In addition to prepping your HVAC Unit for Fall, second homeowners might also want to look into winterization. It’s a good time, to schedule an appointment now, for a professional to come out and prepare your plumbing system for Winter so pipes don’t freeze and ultimately burst.
