End of Winter HVAC Checklist

After this recent snow day here in South Jersey, most of us are eager for the arrival of warmer weather and while we patiently wait to welcome Spring your HVAC system might not be ready for the transition. So before making the switch from heating to cooling, we here at Lenegan Plumbing & Heating LLC have prepared a checklist for homeowners to do before winter ends.

  1. Change your HVAC Air Filter
The start of a new season is a great time to replace your air filter. A dirty air filter can prevent you from getting the most out of your HVAC system, resulting in higher energy consumption and causing you to pay more towards your electric bill. Replacing your HVAC filter not only helps your unit perform better, but it will also improve your home’s indoor air quality
  2. Check your Thermostat
As a precaution, you should change your thermostat’s batteries. A weak battery can cause your thermostat to operate improperly. As warm weather approaches, make sure your programmable thermostat is properly set for summertime temperatures. We here at Lenegan Plumbing & Heating also offer a smart thermostat to help cut energy costs.
  3. Inspect the Ductwork
Clean air ducts are crucial for efficient airflow. As a part of your end of winter maintenance, carefully check the ductwork for any damage. If the ducts are clogged with dust and debris, have them cleaned as soon as possible.
  4. Invest in Professional Maintenance
A visit from your HVAC technician can accomplish those end of winter maintenance tasks too. In addition to the tasks above, our professionals perform a more in-depth checklist. Some of the procedures include: checking the heat anticipator settings, monitoring voltage and amperage, inspecting the cooling coil and much more.
